The cabinetry’s necessity at every living quarter is not arguable. But, not every time we can afford to buy every piece of cabinets that we think needed for our homes. Therefore, it makes sense if many of us consider building some cabinet units ourselves. Nevertheless, something that is still not sure about building cabinets autonomously is: do we really can do that? Are we really able even just to make a simple cabinet design?
Why not? Designing and then building a unit of cabinets without any helps for some professional is always possible if we know what to do and what to deal with. At least, we MUST be able to make the building plan.
In here now I am talking about this as an ordinary man, not a professional in this field. However, to tell the truth, I know a little about how to create a simple cabinet unit. And, just for information, I successfully built it using a method that I had learnt from some magazine previously.
Would you excuse me to share it with you now?
Such a method will be formulated in form of steps that you can learn easily.
1. PREPARATION: Make the cabinet design.
To build a unit of cabinets, first things first, the design idea has to be decided and implemented into some design plan or, in other words, sketches. Having finished making the sketches, then, you can go on to the implementation steps.
2. IMPLEMENTATION STEPS
a. Prepare the materials and equipments.
The materials you MUST prepare are some pieces of plywood and hardwood. As for the equipments, you need to prepare a borer (drill), a saw, some pieces of nails, some screws, and paint.
b. Then, the next thing you need to do is cut into pieces of panels the hardwood and plywood for all the sides of the cabinets as well as the shelving, countertop, etc. Specifically, the hardwood panels are for the countertop. To cut them off, you need to use your saw. Some kinds of saws are possible to use.
c. Using your borer, make holes as many as needed to join all the panels. The amount of the holes depends on the measurements of the whole cabinet unit as well as the quantity of the shelves that you want to make. The holes are made to place the screws.
d. It’s time for fastening. Screw to join all the panels. Leave behind the hardwood panels because they will be used for the top.
e. After joining the panels, then, attach the hardwood panels to the top using nails.
f. The last step of implementing the cabinet design, do finishing. Because we use mostly plywood so painting is the best finishing method.
It is easy, isn’t it?
